London Made Verge Pad Top Bracket Clock

Description

A very original mahogany English bracket clock dating to the late 18th Century. It has a traditional arch pad top with a substantial brass carrying handle, a slim brass bezel and a deep convex glass. The front and sides have silk lined fishscale fret panels and it stands on brass ogee feet. The 8 day twin fusee movement has a profusely engraved backplate and retains its original verge escapement. The dial is signed by the maker C. White of Regents Park. A 'Charles White' is listed in London Post Office records as a ' Watchmaker working at 43 Albany Street, Regents Park', in 1852, this is presumably the second generation.

Condition:
