Quarter Chiming Mahogany Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

This is a fine quality Georgian mahogany longcase clock with unusual quarter chiming movement. It is by Issac Court of Henley in Arden, Warwickshire. He is listed as working there from 1783 to 1804.

The case is exceptionally nice being in well figured mahogany with shell inlay and decorative cross banding. The hood has free standing columns to both the back and front, all fitted with gilt brass Corinthian capitals.

The 8 day movement strikes the quarters on two bells (once for quarter past, twice for half past etc) and the hours on a single bell. The dial has a well painted scene of Old Father Time to the arch. It also has a subsidiary seconds dial and working date indicator. Between 4 and 5 o’clock is a tiny painting of a fly.

The case is in excellent condition but has had a crack to the base repaired. There is also a little bit of old woodworm (treated) in the case cheeks. The movement is in good working order and complete with pendulum, weights, bells and a winding key.

The maximum dimensions are:

52cm(20.5“) wide

220cm(86.5“) high

28cm(11“) deep

You are welcome to collect but if you can’t we can arrange delivery within England and Wales for £85.00, for other destinations please email for a quotation.
