Description

An excellent longcase regulator by Charles Shepherd of London. He is listed as working in Leadenhall Street around 1840. Charles Shepherd is famous for supplying the Galvo-Magnetic master clock at Greenwich in 1852.

This clock has a fine quality case in nicely figured mahogany.

The excellent quality five pillar movement has all the features you would expect with a good quality regulator:

Dead beat escapement

Harrison maintaining power

Fine beat adjustment

Adjusting screws where crutch engages with the pendulum

Fine calibrated adjustment on pendulum bob.

Fine original blued steel hands

The 12” silvered dial has the usual regulator layout of a large minute dial and smaller seconds and hour dials.

The clock case is in good condition and has retained its original finish. There is the inevitable shrinkage crack to the panel in the base and a few very minor cracks to the veneer.

The movement has recently been serviced, it is currently accurate to a few seconds a day but it is still being regulated.
