Description

A nice small and unusual 18th Cent longcase clock by Ross of Hull. This is probably Thomas Ross who worked in Hull from 1787 until his death in 1812.

The case is in oak with mahogany cross banding, it is a lovely colour and has retained its original wax finish.

The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has the unusual feature of an automaton figure to the arch of a blacksmith hammering a horse shoe in time with the pendulum swing. Around the figure it says “I work while you stand idle”

Both the case and movement are in good condition, the clock is working well and keeping good time.
