Its About Time has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
A superb example the 'Verge' bracket clock with quarter striking on a nest of bells.
The clock is extremely original and has a wonderful set of tuned bells as can be heard in the video. The case is ebonised fruit wood, most likely Pear wood with brass reeding to the canted columns 'fish scale' sound frets and a glazed front and rear door. The clock stands on four cast bracket feet, has four pine cone finials and finishing the inverted bell top with a substantial carry handle. The main dial has two 'sub' dials above, one for the strike - silent and one for the calendar which is quite rare for this period and unusual. The back plate is fully engraved (as can be seen in the photos) and the engraving is fine and typical high quality of the period. The Clay family were clockmakers throughout the 17th Century with Charles Clay making for George II. The clock is also supplied with a wall bracket which has been made for the clock around 80 or so years ago and has very useful secret drawer to keep the winding key and small valuables, this can be used if you would like the clock on a wall but can be stored if you prefer a table clock.
