Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1860s.
To the sides are ormolu ram's head handles and it is raised upon a similarly mounted black marble base with gilt feet. The eight-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell, via the outside countwheel, and it is complete with its original decorative pendulum. The fine enamel dial is perfect as are the cast and engraved ormolu hands which are particularly fine. 17ins (43cms) high overall.
