Description
Mahogany longcase (or grandfather) clock, with a brass dial and 8-day movement, by Henry Lawrence of Bristol, circa 1780. This good quality clock features a break-arch brass dial, having moonphases and 'High Water at Bristol Key' inscribed. The case is in fine figured mahogany and, whilst it would benefit from a wax polish, has a wonderful colour and surface patination. (The base appears to have been cut and re-fitted, perhaps to gain access to a smaller house at some time. It does not, however, appear to have been reduced in height) The movement is complete but is being sold in unrestored condition.
