A Fine Late 19th Century Gilt Brass Carriage Clock by Drocourt

19th century
Description

A fine late 19th century French gilt brass carriage clock by Drocourt, with an eight day repeating movement striking the hours and half hours on a gong, in a stylish case with its original satin gilding. The Greek key handle is united by a bold twisted bar, repeated in the corner pillars. The plinth base on shallow bracket feet has demi fluting, the moulded top is similarly treated. The abalone shell dial with Arabic numerals and blued steel hands are set within a frosted gilt mask. Bevelled glass panels to the front and sides and on the rear door and a thick bevelled viewing panel on top, with the repeater button adjacent. The backplate is marked ‘PARIS’ to the centre and the markers mark (an oval poinçon with a carriage clock, letters D C either side) is to the left under the coiled gong. Numbered 30204 to the lower left hand corner of the backplate which is repeated on the baseplate. This clock has been fully serviced and is in full working condition and is supplied with a key; the escapement platform is a replacement. French, for the British market, circa 1885.
