It is modelled in the Baroque style with hairy paw feet, lions mask above the dial, goddess mask below the dial and mythical creatures to each sides of the urn. It is profusely decorated with flowing foliage, particularly the front of the clock which is elaborately blinded fretted. Candelabra have matching bases mounted with handled urns and four branches. This is a beautifully modelled and finished clock set in very good condition.
The large dial is cast brass and has an egg and dart bezel fitted with convex glass. It is mounted with 13 enamel cartouches, one for each hour and one for the retailers name below the 12 o'clock. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.
The French movement is of excellent quality and has the Samuel Marti 'Medaille De Bronze' mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled and tested by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong. Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding on the high spots. The dial is also in excellent condition, the 12 letters have no chips or scratches. the retailers cartouche has a faint hairline and the retailers names has rubbed off. This is a large and stunning clock set ready to grace your home.
Complete with original pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
