Description

Antique silver “Ludgate” pocket watch from J W Benson.

The watch has key-wound movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed The “Ludgate” watch, J W Benson, Patent 4658, best London make, by Warrant to H M The Queen, Ludgate Hill, London. The patent was for an integrated dust ring which also acted as a movement carrier. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs for London 1892 with a maker's mark for J W Benson. A previous owner's name has also been engraved into the inner case back, A Haymany. Overall the case is in good condition with just some unevenness to the back.

The watch has a glass lens which is in good condition, as is the signed enamel dial.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
