George III Figured Mahogany Bracket Clock

18th century
Description

An extremely good quality English George III figured mahogany bracket or table clock with inverted bell shaped top, brass fish scale side sound frets and decorative pierced spandrels to the door stood on brass ball feet finished with brass cone shaped finials and carrying handle to the top.

The clock has a beautifully engraved silvered dial with Arabic minutes and Roman numeral hours and features a date calendar and silent strike dial.

The dial has the makers name:-

Thomas Aldrige

Deal

At some point the movement has been converted from verge to the more reliable time keeping anchor escapement. The back plate is finely engraved with scrolling leaf and bird design. The movement is a five pillar, twin fusee, eight day running clock, with silent strike mechanism which strikes the hours on a bell.

Thomas Aldrige was registered as an apprentice in 1753 and is recorded as working in Deal up to 1791.

The clock movement has been cleaned and serviced and comes with a 12 month guarantee.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
