Antique Buren Half Hunter Pocket Watch, Dublin

The watch has a signed 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and it is in good condition with just the odd minor mark. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. There is a little play in the front hinge which means there is a slight gap around the edge but it clips shut and is secure.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, J McDowell, Dublin. Jack McDowell ran his business from 1935 until 1976. In 1947 he entered his horse Caughoo into the Aintree Grand National and much to everyone's surprise, the horse won with odds of 100-1.

The dial has a faint hairline crack and a small group of faint short hairline cracks by number 10 although none of them are too noticeable to the naked eye.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
