Masons Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
This was a technique developed in China centuries ago and European manufacturers used to send articles over to them to be finished in this style. Martin was the first person to develope the technique in France, from where it spread Europe wide. The Martin brothers are also credited with bringing the technique of "French Polishing" to this country.

We have occasionally had clocks like this for sale but never one of this "minature" nature. It is a first for us.
All of the applied fretwork is gilded to a high standard and in first class order.
