The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The watch has an English ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is beautifully engraved from when it was awarded to Lance Corporal R J Dale, D Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion by the town of Evesham for services as a volunteer in the South African War (otherwise known as the Boer War), 1900 to 1901.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for Chester 1893. The case is in good condition. The case back has the Evesham coat of arms together with the name, J S Slater, Mayor.

The watch glass has minor marking but nothing serious at all.
The white enamel dial is signed Eccles Bros, Evesham, jewellers and original retailer of the watch. Pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
