Description

An impressive and wonderful quality 18th century 8-day LONGCASE CLOCK by Henry Bidole of London in original and perfect working order.

The CASE features the iconic 'pagoda' top to the hood, with fretwork panels to the surmount and to both sides with brass-inlaid columns flanking the hood door. The long trunk door with its arch moulded top is beautifully veneered in finest "flame" mahogany, between brass-inlaid quartered columns, whilst the base has an applied centre panel, within moulding, leading to the traditional double plinth.

The eight-day MOVEMENT which is in perfect working order, strikes hours on a bell, and retains its original brass-cased weights and pendulum, whilst the DIAL has "Strike/Silent" control in the arch; subsidiary seconds dial; date aperture and original blued steel hands. A very fine example indeed. Maximum height: 7ft 10ins; maximum width (at the base): 21ins; maximum depth (also the base): 10ins.
