Compact Regency Rosewood Bracket Clock

19th century
Description

A really lovely late Regency BRACKET CLOCK of compact size and in fine and very original condition.

The case is of beautifully figured rosewood with a gadrooned gabled top; shaped door; and reed-carved 'spandrels'. To the sides are "fishscale" panels and original brass ring handles and it is supported on its original compressed bun feet.

The 8-day movement with its shaped plates, strikes hours on a bell with the engraved signature to both the backplate and the dial. Original pendulum and "holdfast" screw. The engraved & silvered dial features useful "Strike/Silent" control to the arch. 15ins (38cms) high (excluding finial).

***Alexander Purvis is recorded working at No. 4, North Audley Street, (Mayfair) London 1825-1842.
