Description

John Davidge, LONDON: a good quality late 18th century BRACKET CLOCK in perfect working order.

The well-figured mahogany case is of good colour & patina, with pretty ormolu decoration to the bell top; cast finials and ormolu spandrels to the upper part of the door. The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell, with a finely engraved backplate and the original anchor escapement and pendulum. The dial is lovely, with fine cast ormolu spandrels; date aperture and "Strike/Silent" to the arch. Engraved signature to the central cartouche.

***John Davidge worked in London from 1802-1804, though it is likely he worked in the city for somewhat longer than two years.
