Spectacular 18th Cent Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

Here we have a really impressive 18th Cent longcase clock. It has a fine quality case in mahogany with some lovely period inlay. It is in beautiful original condition and has a fine gilt and silvered dial

The clock is by Thomas Jordan of Studhampton, Oxfordshire where worked between 1770 and 1790.

The case is in lovely original condition and is decorated with mahogany cross banding and boxwood line inlay. It stands on ogee feet and has a nice slim trunk with reeded canted corners. The long door has a moulded edge and beautiful satinwood and ebony inlay in the form of a fan. The trunk door has its original lock and key

The pagoda shaped hood has slim free standing columns at both the back and front, all with gilt capitals. The face of the pagoda top is inlaid with a satinwood and ebony star and at the top is a pair of original ball and spire finials.

The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a particularly nice brass arched dial. It has fine gilt spandrels and silvered chapter ring. The centre is also silvered and engraved in the Chinese taste typical of the period. To the arch is a silvered boss with the maker’s name.

The case is in good unrestored condition but does have a few veneer chips to the base. Other than that it is in fine original condition. The movement is in good working order and keeping good time. It is complete with pendulum, replacement brass cased weights, bell and winding key.

The maximum dimensions are:

58cm (23“) wide

240cm (94.5“) high

29cm (11.5“) deep

You are welcome to collect but if you can’t we can arrange delivery within England and Wales for £85.00, for other destinations please email for a quotation.
