Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Typical of good London "provincial" clocks of the period, the splendid mahogany case features brass-inlaid columns to the hood; a long trunk door flanked by brass-inlaid quartered columns; and a panelled base with double plinth.
The upper spandrels feature delightful dolphins. Full working order and guaranteed for at least two years. 84ins (213cms) high.
Thomas Simson was apprenticed in 1766 and worked in Hertford from 1775-1795.
