Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The case is of Italian white marble, fitted with fine quality ormolu mounts and feet, whilst it is surmounted by a finely cast bronze figure of a classical lady reading from an open gilded book on her lap. The eight-day movement features an outside countwheel and strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. The enamel dial is perfect and original as are the gilded 'Breguet' moon hands.
Signed by the maker (Dehne a Paris) to both the dial and the movement. Fully guaranteed for at least two years. 17.25ins wide; 16in high; 6ins deep. (44 x 40.5 x 15.25cms)
