Gents Silver Eros Wrist Watch by Phénix Watch Co

The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 116, which is working nicely.

Phénix Watch Co was founded in Porrentruy in 1873 as Dubail, Monnin, Frossard & Cie. The company was the first to have a registered calibre. In 1894, the company registered the brand name Eros. In 1900 the company name was changed to Société d'horlogerie de Porrentruy and they won a gold medal at the Paris Exposition in the same year. In the 1920s, the name was changed again to Phénix Watch Co.

This particular watch measures 26mm wide excluding the winding crown and 37mm high. The case is silver and there are hallmarks on the back of the watch for Glasgow 1929, together with a personal inscription M to B, Dec 24th 1930. The hinged case back has some unevenness but overall the condition is very acceptable for a piece of this age. The engine turned detail to the front is a handsome feature, as is the decoration down each side of the case.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the Eros name. There is some age related darkening and marking to the dial. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There is some fading to some of the details but the time can still be easily read.

The watch has a later black strap.

The watch will be sent in a vintage presentation box which is tatty but still nice to have.
