Gents 1952 Tissot Bumper Automatic Wristwatch

A gents 1952 Tissot bumper automatic wrist watch.

The watch has the 28.5 T-21 bumper automatic movement which is working nicely. This movement is incredibly similar to the Omega bumper movements of the same period. In fact, in 1930, Tissot and Omega formed an alliance as a multi-national holding company under the banner of the SSIH (Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère SA). The formation was in response to the international economic crisis that had ensued following the Wall Street crash the previous year. The collaboration enabled Tissot and Omega to pool resources and produce a complete range of watches.

Early automatic watches such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement. Later automatic watches have the fully rotational bi-directional rotor.

The movement is signed with the Tissot name and the serial number 2,720,294 dates it back to 1952.

The watch itself measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in very nice condition. The winding crown is signed with the Tissot name, as is the case back… it also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish which has aged, often now called a tropical finish. Dauphine shaped hands (probably replacements but of the right style for the period), centre seconds and outer minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
