Particularly unusual is the original gesso base which is ebonised with gilt decoration.
It is modelled in the Baroque style with mythical creatures to the sides, a goddess mask above the dial and hairy paw feet. The large dial has and egg and dart bezel and a gilded brass centre. The dial itself is enamel on copper and the glass is convex. Modelling is fine and well finished with a good quality gild.
The French movement is of very high quality and has the Vincenti et Cie 'Medaille D'Argent 1855' mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled and tested by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong. Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding on the high spots. The dial has some slight chipping around the winding holes and some hairlines.
Complete with original pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
