An antique silver Record pocket watch with chain.

The watch has an unsigned Record stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1918 with an importer’s mark for Arthur Rendall.

In 1907, an act came into force which meant that all imported watches had to be assayed in a UK assay office and marked with British import hallmarks. For this, a sponsor's mark was required. In this particular case, Arthur Rendell was an employee, and probably in charge, of the department that handled imported watches at a company called Pringles, the UK's largest wholesalers of jewellery, silverware, clocks and watches, so it was deemed relevant to use his initials.

The case is in lovely condition and the engine turned detail is nice and crisp.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The white dial has a small chip to the very edge but it is not visible when the bezel is closed… otherwise it is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single silver chain, hallmarked on the T-bar for 1896. Each of the links has the lion passant silver mark. There is also a shorter chain upon which hangs an acrobatic lady in a pose typical of the Art Deco period.

The watch and chain will come in a new presentation box.
