Antique Silver Hebdomas Pocket Watch, Schild & Cie

1900 - 1920
Description

A handsome antique silver Hebdomas pocket watch by Schild & Cie.

The patents and trade marks for eight day watches were bought by Graizely Freres in 1888. In 1915, the company had a re-organisation and was renamed Schild & Cie (not to be confused with Adolph Schild, the ebauche manufacturers). Schild & Cie continued to produce eight day watches in pocket watch form, and later on in wrist watch form.

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has a large gilt decorated mainspring barrel upon which are details of various trade medals won by Schild.

The watch measures 46mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are Swiss hallmarks inside the case back together with the mark S&C for Schild & Cie. The case is in good condition, just a couple of shallow ‘dings’ to the side. The hinged case back is nicely detailed and has a cartouche to the centre… there is some scratching to the cartouche.

The lens is in good condition.

The off-white signed dial is in good original condition with silver painted detail and black Roman numerals, with a visible escape and balance below.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
