An Antique Limit No 2 Hunter Pocket Watch, Rushden

An antique Limit No 2 full hunter pocket watch, circa 1910s.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and it is in good condition.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition. Original glass lenses were often replaced with acrylic if they broke as it is a much more durable material.

The dial is in good condition. As well as being signed Limit No 2, the dial also has the name Wanklyn Rushden. Albert and Sarah Wanklyn took over an existing watch makers and jewellers in Rushden in 1910 and renamed it Wanklyns. In 1928, the proprietor was listed as Stanley Wanklyn, presumably the son, and he moved the business to 54 High Street. The business was sold in 1952 to a Percy House. The minute hand is a later replacement.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
