Great War Waltham Pocket Watch with History

A WW1 Waltham Traveler pocket watch presented to Private James Sharples of Farnworth, Bolton.

The watch has a stem winding movement, Traveler grade, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number of 21,180,448 dates it back to around 1917. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover, upon which is a beautiful inscription to a Private James Sharples of Farnworth. Mr Sharples was a coal miner, born in 1875, who lived in Penn Street in Farnworth with his wife Lily.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 10ct gold plated and was made by the Dennison Watch Case Company… Aaron Dennison had very strong links with Waltham in the US. The case is in lovely condition and it has the initials JS to the back.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The signed white enamel dial has three or four faint hairline cracks. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
