A Pretty and Small Mahogany Longcase Clock

Description

A really pretty, fine quality and small mahogany LONGCASE CLOCK by Bateman of LONDON.

The case is superb, with its original ebonised finials; fretwork panels to the hood sides; long trunk door flanked by quarter columns and veneered in finest "flame' mahogany with a double plinth base. The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell with a very fine painted convex dial; convex glass and finely cast bezel. Just 79ins (200cms) tall.

***Andrew BATEMAN worked in London (Great Tower Street). He was apprenticed in 1776 and was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1811. The firm ceased work in 1824.
