A 1930 Silver Kays “Old Favourite” Pocket Watch

A 1930 silver Kays “Old Favourite” pocket watch.

William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business, just a year after this particular watch was made. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers.

This particular watch has a Swiss 15-jewel key-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Kay’s Old Favourite, and is protected by an inner fitted cover. There is also a hinged silver cover… it has some scratches and a past owner has scratched Key 6 into it.

The watch itself measures 53mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for Birmingham 1930. There is a patch of scratching inside the cover. The outside of the case has one fairly small indentation to the bezel and some rubbing to the engine turned on the back, just from years of use, but overall is very acceptable for a 1930 piece.

The watch glass has a light 1cm scratch but looks good to the naked eye.

The signed dial is in lovely condition.
