An Ornate Antique Open Faced Pioneer Pocket Watch

An antique open faced Pioneer pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality 17-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch itself measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and was made by the American company Bates & Bacon, founded in 1884. At first they made just gold cases but went onto expand into gold filled cases. In 1901, the company was bought by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company who later became the Keystone Watch Case Company. This particular case is the Royal model, originally guaranteed to wear 20 years (a claim which was introduced in February 1898).

The case is in lovely condition and the screw-on bezel is exquisitely detailed, with a vacant cartouche.

The later acrylic lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial has a few hairlines around the edge but not too detrimental to the naked eye. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
