A gents 1940s Doxa wrist watch.

Doxa (Georges Ducommun, Fabriques Doxa) was founded in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland. Mr Ducommun was well respected in the horological world and in the 1920s was elected vice president of the International Horology Group and president of the Swiss Horology Association at the International Exhibit of the Decorative Arts in Paris.  In 1936 the company was taken over by his son-in-law Jacques Nardin, grandson of Ulysse Nardin, the famous watchmaker. The company was very successful and, from the 1960s, concentrated their efforts on producing divers watches.

This particular watch has a signed 17-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover.

The watch itself measures 31.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition. The screw-on case back is signed with the Doxa name… it states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water. There are several scratches to the back.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in good condition, perhaps a little age related darkening.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
