1918 Waltham P S Bartlett Pocket Watch and Chain

An antique Waltham P S Bartlett grade pocket watch with chain.

The watch has a P S Bartlett grade movement (with the Church 1892 Star Wheel regulator), which has been fully tested and is working well. The grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business. As well as being fully signed, the movement also has the serial number 22037720 which dates it back to 1918.

The watch itself measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and has an Art Nouveau inspired design to the screw-on case back. The bezel is also a screw-on fitting. There is some rubbing to the plated finish but the base metal appears to be brass so similar in colour. The case appears to be a generic case which would have been bought in by various companies to accommodate various movements. When the bezel is removed, there is a space for a lever (to adjust the hands on a lever set movement) however it is not required on this particular movement because the hands are stem set. We are happy that the movement and case are original to each other.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed white enamel dial is in good condition and the outer minute track with red numbers is an attractive feature.

The watch comes with a 31cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
