Bell Striking French Four Glass Clock (France, 1860)

Description

A very fine Gorge case four glass clock, made by Caudron of Paris who was apprenticed to the eminent maker Breguet. The heavy gilt brass case has thick bevel edge glass a very fine enamel dial with Roman numerals and is signed by the maker Caudron, eleve de Breguet, 98 Place Beauveau, Paris. It has an 8 day movement with a compensating gridiron pendulum and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. The makers stamp is embossed and it is numbered 740. Caudron would have been apprenticed to the second generation of the Breguet family, Antoine-Louis Breguet. Caudrons' sons diversified and went on to establish one of the first aeroplane makers in 1908.

Current Condition
