An Antique Silver Pocket Watch with Silver Chain

An antique silver pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a long service inscription.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1918 with a sponsor’s (or importer’s) mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case has a little unevenness to the back but overall is in a decent condition for its age.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Robert Milne, Manchester. It is in beautiful condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single chain which measures 31cm long and it has an 1887 Victorian coin as a fob.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
