Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The mahogany case features a cast handle within a brass-edged pad to the top; the door is fitted with a fine brass bezel and convex glass; slender brass columns to the sides and with fretwork panels beneath the original painted dial and original gilt hands.
Both pendulum bob and backplate are partially engraved and there is "Strike/Silent" control above the dial, whilst dial & backplate are signed and numbered '123'. 14ins high.
THOMAS MOSS worked in Ludgate St., London from 1775; he became a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1786 and he died in 1827. Many of his clocks are numbered.
