An Antique Elgin Pocket Watch, 1900

An antique Elgin pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, grade 211, which is working nicely. The movement is signed and the serial number 8,719,520 dates it back to 1900. The damascening to the movement is a particularly nice feature, and an extra expense at the time of manufacture for something that would not often be seen.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and was the Pilot model from Wadsworth Watch Case Company; the Pilot was one of Wadsworth’s better quality cases and was originally guaranteed to wear for 20 years. The case back is a screw-off fitting, another good sign of quality. The case is in good condition, just a couple of small slight indentations to the back.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The white enamel dial has a chip at the bottom and a couple of very faint hairline cracks, really only visible through a magnifying loupe.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
