Antique Hunter Pocket Watch, Louis-ulysse Chopard

An antique full hunter pocket watch by Louis-Ulysse Chopard.

The watch has a good quality gilded stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the initials LUC for Louis-Ulysse Chopard and is protected by an inner hinged cover.

Chopard was born in 1836 in Sonvilier, Switzerland. His father encouraged him to learn the trade of watch making and in 1860, aged just 24, he started his own company, LUC. The company specialised in watches of excellent quality and the company had an enviable list of distinguished customers including Czar Nicolas II of Russia.

This particular watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated with the thicker 20 microns of gold plated. It is signed inside all three covers with the LUC initials. The case is in good condition with just minor surface marking and just a little bit of play to the front hinge.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is good condition. The signed dark cream coloured dial has a textured finish, giving the appearance of silk… it is in very nice condition and the stylised numbers and Breguet style hands give the watch a real charm.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
