Cross Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
I would describe it as being in "Country House" condition, i.e. having stood in the hall for many years without a lot of attention.
There is some old woodworm damage to one of the columns on the hood but this has been treated and filled so is not a major problem.

The good quality 8 day, 5 pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell. It has a smart brass dial with silvered chapter ring and gilt spandrels. It has a working date indicator and the all important strike / silent selector to the arch. The movement is in good working order and keeping good time.
The maximum dimensions are:

52cm (20.5") wide
25cm (10") deep
