English Mahogany Verge Bracket Clock

Description

JONATHAN DAVIDOE of London: a late 18th century English verge BRACKET CLOCK in full working order.

The case is of figured mahogany, with its 'bell' top surmounted by a cast brass carrying handle; brass slip frame around the front door which incorporates fretwork 'spandrels' and cast ogee bracket feet.

The 8-day movement, which retains its original verge escapement, and has a good engraved backplate, strikes the hours on a bell and repeats these hours at will, whilst the good silvered dial is engraved with the makers signature and has "Strike/Silent" control within the arch and date aperture above "VI". 19ins (48cms) high excl. handle.
