English 18th Century Verge Bracket Clock

Description

CHAMPION, LONDON: an impressive and fine quality 18th century ebonised BRACKET CLOCK in full working order.

The case is in excellent order, with a brass carrying handle to the bell-shaped top; ormolu spandrels and mounts and raised on its original cast brass feet. The 8-day movement strikes and repeats hours on a bell, retaining its original verge escapement, with date aperture; "Strike/Silent" in the arch and a well engraved backplate. Fully signed to the shaped cartouche on the dial. A fine and handsome 18th English century Bracket Clock.

**John CHAMPION, (1730-1779) a renowned London watch and clockmaker. A watch by him can be found in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
