Superb Edwardian Tortoise Shell Mantel Clock

Description

SUPERB quality late Victorian to Edwardian French mantel clock. Gorgeous shape case with brass inlaid tortoise shell front with all the original gilded mounts. The rest of the case is ebonised. Very nice gilded dial with porcelain numbers and original steel hands. The clock case is in very good condition with no repairs or damage.

The clock has its original 8 day platform escapement movement (i.e. no pendulum, like a carriage clock) and strikes on the original gong on the hour and half hour. The movement has been fully serviced. The movement is signed to the back with the usual small round french makers mark that is found on many of these clock movements.
