A 1943 Elgin Pocket Watch

A 1943 Elgin pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Elgin name and the serial number 41,774,179 which dates it back to 1943. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it was made by the Illinois Watch Case Company… the inner case back is stamped with their logo and it also states, ‘cased and timed by Elgin National Watch Company’. The case is in good condition and the twisted rope detail around the edge is a charming feature. There is a military arrow to the back of the watch which suggests it may have been commissioned for the British Army.

The watch glass is in good order.

The signed white enamel dial is in good condition… if viewed through a magnifying loupe, there is a fine hairline crack but it is difficult to see.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
