An Antique Hamilton Pocket Watch, 1917

An antique Hamilton pocket watch.

Hamilton Watch Company came into existence in1892 following various reorganisations of previous companies. The company was named Hamilton after Andrew Hamilton, the original owner of the site in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where the factory was situated.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, grade 974 with 17 jewels, which is working well. The movement is signed Hamilton, Lancaster, PA and the serial number 1,266,389 dates it back to 1917.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case was made by the Wadsworth Watch Case Company and is the Pilot model. It is gold plated and was originally guaranteed for 25 years (the 25 year guarantee came in during December 1905). Prior to that, the Pilot model was guaranteed for 15 or 20 years which suggests improvements were made to the technique. The case is in very nice condition and is beautifully detailed.

The acrylic lens is in good order.

The signed enamel dial is in lovely condition and it has a charming appearance with Breguet style hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers with red numbering.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
