Early 20th C Thomas Russell Premier Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

An early 20th Century Thomas Russell Premier pocket watch.

In 1848, Thomas Russell was listed as a watch maker in Slater Street, Liverpool. By the late 1850s, the company had been handed over to the next generation, Thomas Robert Russell and Alfred Holgate Russell, and the company was then known as Thomas Russell & Son. The company was well respected and they were in the enviable position of being “makers to the Queen”, a fact which they still took advantage of even after the warrant had ceased following Queen Victoria’s death. Russells continued to expand and became retailer jewellers in 1894.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Thos Russell & Son, Liverpool together with the Premier name. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The gold plated case is the “Russell” model by the Illinois Watch Company. It is in good condition with just one small indentation to the back.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is in lovely condition and is fully signed together with the Tempus Fugit (time flies) motto. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
