George III Mahogany Cased Longcase or Grandfather Clock by John Bates (Batts) of Kettering with Attractive Floral Dial Circa 1780-90

Description

Good solid mahogany cased 8 day bell striking longcase clock. The white painted dial with attractive floral design. John bates was born circa 1734 and in 1756 married tha daughter of thomas eayre also a clockmaker. He died in 1819.

Though it is marked "batts" it should infact probably read "bates" due to the signwriters misinterperating the name. This is the 2nd longcase clock we have had with that error. 93.7in high

The movement has been checked and oiled, so. Is offered in good working antique condition & is available to qualify for our delivery & set up service.
