A Gents 1949 Eterna-matic Wrist Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

A gents 1949 Eterna-Matic wrist watch.

The watch has a signed automatic movement, calibre 1249T, which came into production in 1949. This calibre was the first gents automatic movement with the ball bearing rotor (the first automatic ball bearing movement was produced in 1948 but it was for ladies’ watches). The shape of the rotor was changed very quickly, within the first year of production in fact, with the revised calibre number 1249UT. The serial number of 34,159,962 dates the watch back to 1949. The movement is working nicely.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The stainless steel case is in very nice condition and the snap-on case back is signed inside with the Eterna name.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition and has the five ball bearings Eterna logo.

A later brown leather strap has been fitted.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
