Antique Fusee Pocket Watch, Dold, Peterborough

An antique fusee pocket watch by Adrian Dold of Peterborough.

The watch has a fusee (chain driven) movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed A Dold, Peterborough. Adrian Dold was born in Germany in 1848 and was listed as a watchmaker who lived in Narron Street, Peterborough with several other inhabitants who were originally from Germany. The movement is protected by a fitted inner cover. An antique winding key is included although not original to the watch.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London 1886, with a case maker’s mark for the Coventry based silversmith William Hammon. The case is in good condition and there is a vacant cartouche to the back, although a little worn. The inside of the case back has a previous owner’s name engraved into it.

The watch glass is in good order.

The white enamel dial is in lovely condition. One of the hands is a later (although still antique) replacement.
