An Antique Ww1 Gents Silver Trench Watch, 1914

An antique WW1 silver trench watch, 1914.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, made for the English market, which is working nicely. The movement is not signed but is probably by A Schild. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside London (import mark), 1914, with a sponsor’s (importer’s) mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in good condition, just some unevenness to the hinged case back.

The watch glass is in good order.

The white enamel dial is in lovely condition. The hands are initially set by way of the pin set mechanism… the infill has come out of them over the years.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
