A Chunky Antique Waltham P S Bartlett Pocket Watch

An antique Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch.

The watch has a P S Bartlett grade movement, with the Church 1892 Star Wheel regulator, which has been fully tested and is working well. The grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business. As well as being fully signed, the movement also has the serial number 17,053,219 which dates it back to 1908.

The watch measures 53mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop so slightly larger than the standard 50mm pocket watch size, and it is a chunky piece too. The gold filled case is the Fortune model from the American Watch Case Company. There is a floral design to the screw-on case back. There is the odd mark to the case, and a little rubbing in places, but overall the condition is very acceptable for an antique piece.

The watch glass has some nibbling around the edge if viewed closely but otherwise is in good condition.

The signed enamel dial has a charming appearance with slightly elongated Roman numerals and then an inner 24 hour dial, blued steel hands and outer minute markers.
