18th Cent Mahogany 8 Day Longcase Clock

Description

Here we have a handsome basically 18th Cent longcase clock. The nice slim case is in mahogany with some interesting inlay. It is clear that all the bits did not all start of life together but they all fit well and make a smart clock that won’t break the bank.

The case is very elegant and slim and in nicely figured mahogany. The brass dial is signed John Mears of Plymouth and has a silvered chapter ring, gilt brass spandrels and a subsidiary seconds dial. There is also a blanked date aperture. The associated 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell.

The case is in pretty good condition but has had the odd repair over the years and I think the back board has been replaced. There are a couple of small areas of lifting veneer on the trunk door, however this should not be too difficult to fix. The movement is in good working order and complete with weights, pendulum, bell and a winding key.

The maximum dimensions are:

49cm (19“) wide

211cm (83“) high

26cm (10“) deep
